The IEEE strategic plan encourages public policy engagement. Public policy increasingly influences how technology is designed, developed, and deployed. It is in the interests of IEEE to ensure that it is based on accurate information and meets the needs of the IEEE community. This page provides resources for IEEE Organizational Units (OUs) to learn about public policy at IEEE and how to get started.
Communicating Public Policy
Public policy position statements and technology policy white papers are the foundation of IEEE public policy activities. These advocate government action and provide information on technical issues. All IEEE public policy communication must be consistent with an approved public policy position statement or white paper. This includes testimonies, public statements, publications, media releases, and social media posts.
OU Public Policy Documents
Any IEEE OU may produce a public policy position statement or technology policy white paper that addresses issues within its geographic or technical scope. The OU must have a documented process for developing such documents, which must include.approval by the OU’s governing body.The process should ensure adequate technical input and coordination with other relevant IEEE OUs and usually entails forming a public policy committee within the OU. If you are interested in starting a public policy committee, please contact the GPC chair.
GPC Review
All public policy position statements and technology policy white papers must be submitted to IEEE Global Policy Caucus (GPC). for review and approval. This can be done by an email to the GPC chair or GPC staff.
