IEEE’s Plan To Help Combat Climate Change

The IEEE Board of Directors has formed an ad hoc committee chaired by 2022 President-Elect Saifur Rahman to outline a coordinated plan for an IEEE response to the global challenges posed by climate change.   The plan will seek to leverage IEEE’s technology focus and standards efforts in the areas of energy efficiency, battery energy storage, small modular and advanced nuclear power, cross-border power transfer and carbon sequestration.   As part of the effort, IEEE will also be working to raise awareness of the climate challenges and the role that technical professionals can play in climate remediation and adaptation, including outreach to public policy-makers.
